Yesterday marked the beginning of National Diabetes Awareness Month. There are campaigns taking place throughout the month to build awareness and educate the public about the disease. I’ll share information on various activities during the next couple of weeks, but below are two to note.
The Diabetes Hands Foundation and Diabetes Research Institute announced the Big Blue Test, which will take place on November 14, World Diabetes Day. The campaign asks people with diabetes to test their blood sugar at 2 p.m. local time, do 14 minutes of activity, test again and share the results on Twitter using the #bigbluetest hashtag.
Please check out this video to learn more about the Big Blue Test and help children in need. Every view will allow a child to receive a week’s worth of the life-saving insulin they need thanks to a $75,000 donation from Roche Diabetes.
Also, the American Diabetes Association launched a video contest to complement their Stop Diabetes campaign with type 1 diabetic Bret Michaels. The contest asks people to submit a 30-second video that shares their vision for ending diabetes.
